As a final culmination of this course students presented their research findings – either in the form of a DVD or as a summary of their longer term paper. This final presentation of research findings took place in the wonderful space of the CEREV lab. The DVD presentations dealt with the following topics: “Christmas 1914, Ad Hoc Truces, and the Culture of Trench Warfare”; “The Trenches of the First World War”; “Sexuality and the Sexual Revolution: a Historiographical Approach to the First Sexual Revolution”; “Shell Shock: A Contested Reality”; and “Dada: l’espoir d’une humanité purifiée”.

What unique challenges arise in attempts to deploy memories and documents of violence for public display? And what innovations in exhibition, museology, public cultural interventions and the activation of memorial sites might these challenges inspire? This course grapples with these questions in theory and practice. Course participants engage in original curatorial experiments based on documentation collected in post-conflict communities.
